I
photograph lighthearted, colorful, fine art images
of landscapes, western culture and informal moments.
I then use the Polaroid Emulsion Transfer process
to create more dreamlike, painterly prints that
can stand-alone or be combined into themed collages.
The process starts with a Polaroid
photo taken of a slide, which is then heated in
water. This causes the "emulsion" - the
extremely delicate piece of plastic that holds the
image - to separate from the paper backing. I then
apply the image to watercolor paper, manipulating
the emulsion as it stretches and unfolds, working
out the wrinkles. Because of the stretching and
wrinkles of the emulsion, each print is its own
creation; no two will ever be identical.
